My husband and I decided to invite the other Recruiter and his family over for some much needed R&R tomorrow night. They (the office) have been working very hard lately trying to make mission. Especially since one of the Recruiters left and his replacement has not checked in yet. So we decided it would be nice to get the families together and have some fun.
This will also give me an opportunity to talk to the other Recruiter's wife. I know she has been feeling a bit overwhelmed lately. She started a new job and her best friend just PCS'ed so it's got to be hard on her. We can get together and vent and complain about USMC Recruiting Duty for awhile and then come up with ways to cope.
My best advice is getting involved with something that makes you happy. She did start a new job, but I'm concerned that she may have taken on too much at once. She's always been a stay at home mom, so starting a full time job can cause stress and frustration.
Working full time involves finding child care, dealing with child care issues, stress of being away from you family, as well as less time to complete tasks you normally do.
So it's twice as hard to clean the house, do laundry, and run errands when you've been on your feet for the last 9 hours and you still need to spend time with the kids, help them with homework, cook dinner and get them snug in their beds. Working adds a whole new element to the mix. On top of that, a recruiter's spouse must try to coincide their schedule with the Marine Corps Recruiter's so that they can still manage to see each other and spend time together.
Then there is also that occasion when you need your spouse to watch the children while you go to work and he can't be there at the last minute. We've had to deal with that regarding school at my house too. So, while I'm glad that she is getting out of the house, I'm hoping she hasn't taken on too much at once.
She also got involved with soccer a few months back and she's really enjoying that. So hopefully that is something that can bring her joy and allow her to work off some anger and frustration. Although, when depression sneaks in it can be difficult to be motivated enough to get out there and run around.
I guess I'll find out more tomorrow. It's always a little touchy trying to bring up the subject of how happy or miserable a person is. I have to admit I am a bit nervous. But I'm sure once we get over that first hump it will all just come out.
Marine Corps Recruiting Duty is a hard assignment and one no one should have to go through alone. Spouses have to stick together and support each other. So hopefully we can set up a support network tomorrow over my taco bar and have some laughs along the way!

Just wanted to say your blog is wonderful - I even sent a link to my husband so he can have a better idea of what to expect over the coming months and years. We've been waiting on solid school orders for nearly a year now (he was originally slated to go July 2011, but due to a high risk pregnancy, then some admin issues, it's gotten modded a few times) and we finally have them. He starts school at the end of this month. I'm excited and scared, but it's just another step in a long journey and it won't last forever. Keep writing, and good luck to you and your family!
